UK Sports Betting Integrity Forum releases new action plan
Sports Betting Integrity Forum (SBIF) has released a new action plan which aims to fight corruption in UK’s sports.
This government-supported initiative was launched in November last year by the English Football Association (FA) and it aims to solve issues like match-fixing and corruption in sport in the UK. In order to manage this, SBIF brings together different parties, such as sports governing bodies, betting operators, sport and betting trade associations, law enforcement and gambling regulation.
The main idea behind launching the new ‘Sports Betting Integrity Action Plan’, is to diagnose an manage risks that come along with match-fixing and sporting integrity.
Tracey Crouch, UK Minister for Sport and Gambling, said “The integrity of sport is absolutely paramount and we have to do all we can to protect it. The Sports Betting Integrity Action Plan is about ensuring that Britain remains a safe place to bet on sport and to tackle any threat of corruption that emerges. We cannot be complacent.”
“The Gambling Commission, sports bodies and law enforcement agencies all are aligned on this with effective collaboration vital in the fight against match-fixing”, she added.
Joint chairs of the SBIF, Darren Bailey and Mike O’Kane, also comment: “Maintaining confidence in the integrity of sport is key to its healthy future development. The action plan with its co-ordinated, proactive and collaborative approach across all relevant stakeholders will help meet the challenges of protecting sports from integrity threats, however large or small.”
