2018 has been yet another bumper year for the iGaming sector, and here at SiGMA we’ve covered the big stories as they’ve happened. We thought we’d look back to see which of our online news stories made the biggest impression on our audience, so without further ado, here are the top ten most-viewed posts from SiGMAnews in 2018:
10: Olympic Entertainment Group Acquired by Odyssey Europe

Gaming Operator acquired in €288 million takeover bid. Eastern European gaming operator Olympic Entertainment Group (OEG) has agreed to be acquired by a UK-based private equity group.
9: Sweden to Reregulate iGaming Market and Open to International Operators
(Jan 15, 2018)
Sweden plans to reregulate the iGaming Market. The draft legislation, proposed in December 2017 after a study which began in 2015, would see a new licensing system, a set of strict rules governing the industry, and an 18% tax on licensed operators.
8: William Hill setting up presence in Malta

Another betting giant is planning to establish a presence in Malta. William Hill, a legacy sportsbook giant largely geared towards the UK-market, is looking to hedge against Brexit by opening a satellite office in Malta.
7: The Safe Side of Online Gambling in Finland

It has long been known that the government in Finland has an air-tight Monopoly on the €10 billion per year gambling industry within the country. Unsurprisingly, this is much to the chagrin of EU, which has exerted pressure to end all forms of state run monopolies and open up markets to competition. Despite the pressure, Finland has remained steadfast and have yet to budge on the issue.

A new soccer betting tips site has launched. BetSoccer.ca will focus primarily on the Canadian market and will cover all of the 2018 World Cup games. The site will provide analysis for every World Cup game, all the way from the group stages through to the final.
3: Henrik Persson Ekdahl announces sale of stake in Catena Media

Swedish tech entrepreneur Henrik Persson Ekdahl has made yet another big splash. On Tuesday evening, following the close of the stock exchange, Henrik Persson Ekdahl announced the sale of half his stake in Catena Media stock.
